Tall Ship Providence + The Art of Sailing Project 2012-2017
What started out as a inspiration for a summer project turned into much more than originally thought; a new dream, a new home and lifestyle, a new career and passion.
The vision began June 2011. Upon moving aboard the Tall Ship Providence 2012, 3 stunt shows a day were performed 60 +ft in the air in each new port for the Tall Ships Festival 2012, while this girl from Kansas learned the art and trade of sailing (as well as running a rescue project/ start up business).
Falling in love with this rescue project Tall Ship Providence, Nichole Mate and Event Director donated the majority of her time creating business and fund raising for the vessel while searching for investors.
The Goal: to make this vessel her permanent home, business and outreach platform for good.
January 2015 Blizzard Juno damaged the vessel severely. Immediate public fundraising began though put on pause upon which an individual private search for investors were sparked interest and met with to discuss and grow the business plan to continue the project, though time ran out.
After countless hours and years personally invested in the project and an estimated donation total of over $100,000 in a variety of avenues from collaborators (keynote speakers, dock space, materials, learning tools for outreach, media and marketing, labor, liquor sponsors, entertainment sponsors), the project and purists have come to an end as another buyer has taken over the vessel with their own vision as of fall 2017.
With much gratitude, Nichole wishes the new owners and project the very best.
Many entrepreneurs come to a point when they at times have to walk away from their dream, leave space for that dream to mold and change and stay open to new possibilities. They also must take the time to realize amidst the sadness of loss, there is much gratitude for how a dream can have the power to change us... for the better.
Thank you Tall Ship Providence, Thank you Captain Thorpe Leeson and all the sailors and residents of Newport who supported and encouraged the pursuit of this dream.
"Give me a fast ship. For I intend to go in harms way." - John Paul Jones Tall Ship Providence 1774

Testimonial: "Nichole Raab and The Art of Sailing performances made the Tree of Life the most popular boat at Antigua Classics this year. The dazzling, hire wire, death defying aerial dance drew hundreds of enthusiastic spectators. I can't think of a better way to attract attention for your vessel than having The Art of Sailing project flying from your rig.
In addition to her skills fifty feet above the deck, Nichole has proved herself to be an excellent hand on deck as well. She has learned many of the finer details of sailing a gaff rigged vessel. She is strong and smart and always learning.
But the most important thing she brings aboard is a great disposition and ability to get along with and motivate a crew. Nichole always has a berth aboard Tree of Life when she wants one." ~ Paul Morse

Additional Testimonials:
"Nichole is one of the most professional sailors and performers that I have had the privilege to work with. I have sailed with Nichole in both onshore and offshore environments and she is a valuable and enthusiastic crew member in both. Her sailing experience, along with her incredible attitude, has consistently increased the safety and moral of every vessel she has worked on. As an aerial artist her willingness to go above and beyond along with her incredible skills, always ensures a stunning performance in any venue. Safety, community and excitement are seemingly always mixed in her performances and career. Nichole has routinely volunteered her time to share her experiences and lifestyle with children of all ages. Once you
have seen Nichole in action, there will be no going back!"
